Many people are still fuzzy on what exactly it is that a Senior Move Manager does.  At Key Associates, we strive to make a move as easy as possible for older adults.  Our services include:

 

• assisting the client in organizing, sorting, and downsizing their items
• assistance in selecting the appropriate items to keep for the new home
• assuring that any special items are dispersed to other family members
• arranging the sale, donation, or gifting of unwanted items
• professional packing
• scheduling and overseeing the movers
• unpacking
• set-up and organization of the new home
• clean up and removal of all boxes and packing supplies
• purchasing items for the set-up of the new home (if desired)
• patience and compassionate care of the older adults
• removing the emotions of a family-executed move

At Key Associates, we can't stress enough the benefits gained when staging a home before selling.  We have seen these benefits time and time again.  We are still in a tricky real estate market, and the competition is fierce.  Key Associates maintains a warehouse of furniture and home accessories, and is both certified and skilled in home staging.  The cost of staging is generally minimal in comparison to the maximized buying potential and minimized market time.  Here's a YouTube video posted by CBS titled "Staging:  Home Sellers' Secret Weapon.

There are several industries that anxiously await the "Color of the Year" announcement from Pantone.  Pantone is a world-renowned color authority for designers, manufacturers, retailers, and customers.  In addition to working for Key Associates, I also have a wedding planning business, WNC Weddings & Events.  Since the "Color of the Year" is a big deal in the wedding industry, as well as in the design industry, it is always exciting for me to see what color I can expect to enjoy throughout the year.  Shades of green have always been favorites of mine, so I was especially pleased with the 2013 selection of Emerald.  Here are some fun design ideas that use the Emerald Color of the Year.

HOME STAGING FOR REALTORS AND BUILDERS

In recent months, we've been talking more about the benefits of home staging for both realtors and builders.  Studies continue to show that staged homes increase profits and decrease market time.  We are still in a tricky selling market, and home staging can give listings a distinct advantage.  Check out this video where a realtor and builder discuss home staging.

Over the holidays, most of us spent time with our loved ones at some point.  And for many of us, that includes at least one older adult.  We visited with my 91 year old grandmother, who happens to still be living independently.  She's quite stubborn, so living independently isn't necessarily our choice - it is one that she is dead-set on maintaining.  Every time we visit, we broach the subject of moving her to a more assisted setting, and into a condo that would be smaller and easier for her to maintain. 

 

Holiday visits can be a great time to evaluate the living situation of an older adult, and a perfect setting to discuss other options while several family members are present.  When the conclusion does lead to a move, Senior Move Managers can be a huge asset to all of the family AND to the person making the move.  Key Associates has had the pleasure of helping many older adults transition from a larger condo or family home into an assisted living facility.  We do so with kindness and compassion, and with extreme efficiency.  We are a member of the NASMM (National Association of Senior Move Managers) and we also have a CRTS (Certified Relocation & Transition Specialist) on staff.  Here is a great article with details on working with a senior move manager.  Click on the image to link to the full article.  If you foresee the need to move an older adult in your life, please consider including a trained professional to assist in the transition.
